New Honorary Patron: Growlers NL President Glenn Stanford teams up with Murphy Centre

The Development Office is thrilled to announce Growlers Glenn Stanford as our new Honorary Patron. Glenn is the President of Deacon Sports & Entertainment, who are the owners of the Newfoundland Growlers. Glenn will serve in this role from June 2021 to December 2022. Glenn is a well known Newfoundland & Labrador Sports and Business personality who has been active in promoting and supporting community initiatives he believes in. Here are his thoughts as he assumes this new role: “I have been so fortunate in my life and there has always been a desire to ‘give back’ for the greater good of the community. The Murphy Centre has been a quiet force for good  for 35 years. The challenges of providing quality programs which allow others to achieve their potential are increasing. Revenue sources to fund these programs are harder to find. My hope is to assist the Murphy Centre open doors to help their program develop to meet the needs being presented.” Glenn is a person whose ‘word is his bond’. We look forward to working with him.

The Technology Boom: How the Murphy Centre is  Responding?

In remaining responsive to the changing needs of our participants, the Murphy Centre is developing TECHPREP: A bridging program to the world of Technology. We are working with a variety of partners to offer our participants an opportunity to improve their present technological skill level to A) Access further, advanced technological training or, B) Access entry level positions within the Technology Sector.

Our goal is to operationalize this initiative by January 2022 if all goes well.  Our 2 year budget target for TECHPREP  is $500,000. We are grateful for the conditional guarantee of $250,000 from the Hewitt Foundation. This money will be released to us when we meet the remaining portion of the two year budget. Verafin Inc. has joined TECHPREP as a partner and has committed $10,000 toward the budget.

Inspiring Lives Morning Coffee Breaks

In our last edition of Development @ MC we challenged you to consider hosting a small group of friends in your home to hear more about the work of the Murphy Centre. The response was positive and encouraging. There is still space on the list and you can get involved by calling Derrick or Anthony at the numbers listed under Quick Links.

Skilled Trades Focus Mobilizing…

We have recently hired our S.O.A.R. Coordinator, Courtney Clarke, and she is working diligently with our partner agencies toward a Fall 2021 start-up.

Save the Date!

2nd Annual Inspiring Lives Appeal will run from November 10 to December 10,2021.

Proceeds will be used to meet the costs of our Readiness Program, to help launch our proposed TECHPREP program and,to assist with any unforeseen shortfall we may experience

While we gratefully accept donations year round, our designated Appeal period provides a focus for our work within the community.

We ask you to consider a monthly gift at a monetary level of your choosing. Some donors have opted for this way of giving and we certainly see the accrued benefit.

Giving Potential

Have you considered:

Honor Donations: to celebrate occasions like birthdays or Christmas?

In Memoriam Donations: to remember a loved one or friend?

Monthly donations: These enhance our potential exponentially.

Legacy Gifts: Perhaps you might consider a planned Legacy gift to extend your positive influence into the future!

Contact Derrick or Tony for details.
